Hitler admirer's bid to be city MP

A SENIOR British National Party activist - who has previously expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler - is standing for parliament in Sheffield.
Mark Collett, aged 29, was selected by the far-right party to stand against Labour MP David Blunkett in Brightside and Hillsborough, along with three others who will contest Attercliffe, Heeley, and Penistone and Stocksbridge.

Grammar-school educated Mr Collett is the most senior of the four, as BNP director of publicity and a former chairman of the party's youth wing.

His views - which include stating Hitler would 'live for ever' - were today condemned by Sheffield politicians from all three mainstream parties.

Former Home Secretary Mr Blunkett said: "The announcement of this fascist's candidature on Holocaust Memorial Day is demonstration enough, if it were ever needed, of the obnoxious, deeply offensive and dangerous character of these people - who are not only in denial but are seeking to inflict their poison on the people of Sheffield.

"We will be revealing over the next three months the appalling and outrageous views of this individual, much of which is an insult to those who have given their lives in defending this country and who find his views on Hitler abhorrent.

"In this election, in the new, expanded constituency, every vote really will count."

Mr Collett - who took 1,200 votes in Leeds Central at the last election - told The Star: "I'm coming to Sheffield because the BNP is the only viable option in Brightside and Hillsborough.

"Sheffield people don't want the Tories, and we are the only alternative to Labour in many parts of the city." Mr Collett's views were exposed in Channel 4 documentary Young, Nazi And Proud in 2002, when he was secretly filmed saying "Hitler will live forever" and said of British black people: "Just because a dog is brought up in a stable doesn't make it a horse."

Millions of people watched the recording of him saying: "I honestly can't understand how a man who has seen the inner-city hell of Britain today can't look back on that era of Hitler's Germany with a certain nostalgia and think, 'yeah, those people marching through the streets and all those happy people in the streets, saluting and everything, was a bad thing'."

Be honest someone who denies the holocaust and puts hitler in his hero list is a complete and utter waste of space.
It has been said many times before but the BNP are NOT the way forward. If they get in power it will be Germany 1939 over again. Who will they pick on. Blacks? Asians? Just like they killed the jews (well they deny it) many inncoent lives will be lost. I have a best mate who is chinese, born in England. Many times i have stood upto racist thugs who like to single out. These people are moronic. Think people. Do research. Never go on a 1 policy party. How are they going to deport other ethnics? Its not going to happen without Violence.

So - I assume all those BNP voters who voice their opinion on these pages are happy voting for this man, praising the people your grandparents probably fought to keep out of England.

The irony of those who vote BNP to curb immigration when the MP they intend to vote for admires the very man who tried to invade England.

I would say, it shouldn't be hard for one of the main three parties (four if you include the lib dems as well as the tories, greens and monster raving looney party) to provide a more suitable candidate.

the reason why these people are getting votes is because they are making sense to alot of the low earning families that are in citys by highlighting things to make them feel hard done to. Before they got support from the redneck areas but the support is spreading. If they thought out there campain then they could pick up alot more votes

Whilst this guys views and opinions might not appeal to everyone at least he has the guts to stand up and express his ideals. Unlike our main stream parties who have a bad habit of saying one thing and doing another, or constantly looking for that vote-winning gimmick. Why is everyone so ready to attack the BNP yet do NOTHING about the radicalised Muslims who spout hate against this very country that grants them benefits. Is it to do with the fact that Collett is white and thats alright but we DAREN'T utter a word about the 'others' ? Bigots the lot of you.

I have voted BNP before but I wont do again if this individual is standing in the Sheffield area.
First of all his views of hitler are wrong and secondly he is not a local person so how can he know what the voters round here want?
I cant beleive that Sheffiled BNP dont have anyone willing to stand against the fool blubkett from round these parts?anyway this is one vote they just lost.
