SHOCKED shoppers watched in horror as a man was stabbed in broad daylight outside Primark in Sheffield city centre today.
Witnesses said a row broke out between two men and one of them plunged a knife into the other man's side before fleeing through Watsons Walk next to Argos at around 9am.
Passers-by found a chair and tended to the injured man while the emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene on Market Place.
Police threw a cordon around the scene as a crowd gathered.
One market trader, who did not want to be named, said: "There were two black guys arguing and then one of them stabbed the other one in his side. Someone found a chair and sat the injured man down, there was a lot of blood.
"The other man ran off through the passageway next to Argos."
One shopper said: "I am shocked that something like this has happened in broad daylight. The streets are getting worse."
A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman this morning confirmed there had been "an incident" but no further detail was forthcoming at the time of going to press.
