POLICE have today named the car passenger who died during a police pursuit along the M1 motorway near Chesterfield.
Steven Bellerby, aged 25, of Peterlee, County Durham, was in the back of a Vauxhall Corsa which ran off the road and down an embankment at junction 29a at 2am yesterday.

The vehicle was being followed by a police car along the northbound carriage
way of the motorway after failing to stop when officers requested.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop and theft of a vehicle - a 31-year-old from Southampton and a 26-year-old from County Durham.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Witnesses should call Derbyshire Police on 0845 1233333.
