SOUTH YORKSHIRE anglers fishing without a licence were caught red-handed in a crackdown by the Environment Agency.
Fisheries enforcement officers took to the waterways throughout South Yorkshire and beyond in a bid to catch fee dodgers.

In South Yorkshire bailiffs carried out 112 licence checks on anglers and caught nine people fishing without a licence in She
ffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster waterways.

Those who fail to produce a licence within seven days will be taken to court.

They could be fined up to £2,500 and magistrates have the power to confiscate angling equipment and ban offenders from fishing for five years.
