A CYCLIST from Sheffield is relying on pedal power to help him and four friends raise a total of £10,000 for charity.
Pete Broomhead, aged 30, from Stocksbridge, is one of five cyclists who will spend 10 days riding the 874 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats, plus an extra 126 miles to round the challenge up to 1,000.

Pete, who says his favourite food is "pie
", has been training rigorously for the past three months and has so far raised £630 out of his personal £2,000 target for charity Afrikids.

His employer, Network Rail, has pledged to match-fund his sponsorship up to a maximum of £1,200. Afrikids is a children's rights organisation working to alleviate child suffering in Ghana's Upper East region. Each day the cyclists will ride nearly 100 miles and keep an online blog about their journey.
