A YOUNG Sheffield man battling leukaemia has admitted he may have just months to live after revealing the disease has come back.
Adrian Sudbury, from High Green, had been fighting two forms of leukaemia for 18 months but despite intensive treatment at the Hallamshire Hospital doctors have been unable to hold back the disease.
A recent bone marrow test showed it had returned and further tests indicated that without chemotherapy the 26-year-old may only have a few months to live.
Adrian, a digital reporter on the Huddersfield Examiner, has now told readers on his award-winning blog he doesn't want to undergo more chemotherapy after doctors told him there was only a 20 per cent chance it would lead to a long-term cure.
"In the end I decided to have no further intensive treatment," said Adrian.
What do you think? Post your comment below."I had made up my mind a long time ago that if I was given this news I would stay healthy for as long as possible and enjoy spending time with my friends and family.
"This might sound strange...but after talking to my medical team I am still confident I have made the right choice - the fact that it was my choice was also important."
On his Baldy's Blog, Adrian has chronicled his battle with two distinctive forms of the disease and, according to medical literature, he is the only person in the world to have the condition.
Adrian speaks movingly about his love and support for his family who have been incredibly strong during his health problems.
"As for me I'm feeling okay. I've been preparing for this eventuality now for the best part of 18 months.
"I've led a decent life, seen a lot of the world and been in a job I've enjoyed. As for dying - how can anyone be scared of something that is going to happen to every single one of us?"
Adrian has endured two cycles of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and courses of drugs.
He became ill two days into his job as a digital journalist back in November 2006.
Last year his blog won both the International Weblog Award for best medical or health issue and the Guild of Health Writers Best Online Feature Award.
