J&R Wedding Chair Covers is run by Rebecca Lawson, 25, of Clarke Avenue, Laughton, Sheffield.
Rebecca set up the business after marrying Steven Lawson in October and insists she called Trading Standards for advice and had been told the business was 'all correct'.

She claimed her address was on the website and the £50 deposit requirement ha
d always been included in the terms and conditions, including those on her website and it was up to brides to read them.

The mum-of-three also said she'd been forced to change her number after falling victim to a phone scam, but she insisted she 'always responded' to emails...and she didn't know why some did not get through: "People aren't paying the deposit so, when they don't get covers, they say I'm in the wrong. What more can I do?

"People say I'm trying to con them but I'm the one being conned."

Mrs Lawson defended her business: "I don't know what their problem is. If I knew I would rectify it. They just need to phone me or email me.

"I had a horrendous wedding, everything went wrong apart from the chair covers, which were brilliant. I always said I would never do that to anyone."

Furious brides have posted comments about the firm on websites including You and Your Wedding, Moneysavingexpert and Facebook.

Mrs Lawson said she had complained and some were taken down after they became "defamatory".

I am so upset over all this. I get married in 2weeks time, and started getting emails for people with their horror stories about this company. I booked and paid for my actual chair covers in full back in december. I tried to call J&R on bith telephone numbers it just goes straight to voice mail, I have left messages. She obviously is not picking them up as both voicemails say the inbox is full are you are now unable to leave a message. My venue has tried to contact her with no luck. i have sent emails and had no response. £weeks before my wedding i really did need all this, now I have had to go and re-book another company at £500. to ensure the day is not spoilt. I have sent emails asking for her address and she never replied, so I can't sent the deposit . This woman is a joke. How can she say all these things. If it was just one complaint I could understand but surely there has to be something wrong if there are this many. Something needs to be down. Weddings are ment to be happy, and are stressful and cost enough without companies like this. I will be fighting all the way to get my money back after the day.

HI steph,
She too has done this to me. I think she has a screw loose. Ive never heard so many lies and from a business, unbelievable! At first I thought she was genuine when I commented about all the negative feedback, she had an answer for everything. But then 3 times she apparently sent me samples and I got 'sorry they were sent 1st class' I may add bookd in January still didnt have them begining of June. So I asked for recorded and guess whatshe told me ' my husband forgot and sent 1st' Wouldn't you think if loads of brides are slating her for this apparent postal issue and then it happens 3 times to me and I specifically ask fr recorded she would do that?! Not her, and why because she lies! Its so simple to eradicate these issues just do what you promise - so simple!I even got anoher terrible excuse about not turning up to deliver involving her children which is horrible! Just so happened to be a scorching weekend and when her husbnd turned up a day later he seemed to have a lovely tan!!Slowly but surely she started to tell more lies and ignore me just like the other brides. I dont think think she intentionally sets out to rip people off but she is 'Cant used the words!) t...k! My advice Steph is contact Trading Stds in Sheffield and log your case like I did. They have a meeting with her and are behind us 100% she in in breach of the distance selling act so you have a case. I would also send her 2 recorded etters to the 2 addresses she uses so she won't sign but you have proof you did it. Ha, even when i returned the cover 'recorded' she told me well it hasnt turned up! I had it on tracking, they tried to deliver, she just couldnt be bothered to pick it up. But she'd have told another bride I hadn't returned so she couldn't send it out probably. Still there now, 2 weeks on. keep all your emails and texts as proof. For yor covers try this company they have come to my rescue. My work use them and so have 2 friends they have said if you cancel they refund ALL mo

We booked and paid in full for our chair covers back in December. I was promised a sample of a colour I wanted that they didn't do at the time which I never got. I made several attempts to contact them by phone but only got answer machine, I left several messages and I tried contacting them by email never got any replies. After reading the stories about J&R in the star and with our wedding being only 3 weeks away and we have had to book another company at short notice which you don't need this close to the wedding. She's obviously bit off more then she could chew with the business and has really poor customer service skills and doesn't know how to treat customers. We thought the cheap price was too good to be true and it obviously was!

J and R wedding chair covers are now operating as www.whitelilychaircovers.co.uk. Rebecca Lawson is the same person behind it. Beware.....their website doesnt even have a contact number on it, would you trust them?
