High-flying Wilfred Blagg was today reunited with a familiar friend to mark his 80th birthday – Concorde.
The Sheffield businessman has flown on the iconic jet seven times.
And to celebrate his 80th birthday today, Wilfred, from Dore, was taking a day off work to be reacquainted with Concorde once again – this time as a special guest on a guided tour of the aircraft which is now at the air museum in Manchester Airport.
His daughter, Julie Hadfield, said: “I think my dad is a legendary man who has achieved so much in his life and now he has reached the age of 80 we would like to celebrate with him.
“So as a surprise on his special day we organised a champagne breakfast and then to take him to re-board Concorde where he will have a guided tour and sit in the flight deck and be presented with a certificate.
“He is a wonderful husband to wife Eileen and a wonderful father and father-in-law to Julie, Joanne and John and also a special grandad to Laura, Alexander and Poppy.
“We would like to thank him especially for being so supportive and always being there for us.”
Wilfred, who still works as a business consultant, was awarded the MBE in 1984 for services to the construction industry.
At that time he was the northern director and group director for Brightside Engineering and Mechanical Services and also held executive positions with many top Sheffield companies.
He was also chief negotiator and responsible for leading the employers negotiations with the trade unions for the Industries National Wage agreement.
Wilfred also ran his own management consultancy business, WB Associates.
