Rother Valley MP, Sir Kevin Barron, will be among the thousands who run this year’s London Marathon.
Sir Kevin, who will be one of 16 MPs taking part in the race around the capital on APril 23, is hoping to raise cash for the Age UK Rotherham with the 26.2 mile endurance challenge.
Sir Kevin, aged 70, said: “I’m going to run for Age UK Rotherham, they’re very active in my constituency and they are looking after elderly people 365 days a year.
“This charity does great work and I think that’s a worthy cause for me to try and raise money for.”
Age UK Rotherham is an independent charity whose charitable objectives are to make the lives of older people in Rotherham as fulfilling and rewarding as possible. Each year the charity must raise substantial funds to enable them to continue their work.
Sir Kevin added: “I ran the marathon ten years ago, aged 60, and I am hoping to reclaim my title as the oldest MP to complete the marathon, which Alistair Burt MP took from me last year.
“Training is going well but I know the hardest sessions are to come. Any donations will support the great work that the charity does.”
