PLANS for a £50 million development project close to Chesterfield town centre have taken a step forward with the appointment of a partner company by the borough council.
Wilson Bowden Developments has been selected to take on the Northern Gateway project, which will transform the Donut roundabout area into a high quality shopping and leisure area.
The site will also offer a mix of office space, homes and car parking.
Wilson Bowden has won the contract ahead of Muse Developments after a decision by Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet.
The plans, which will go forward for a full public consultation in the next few weeks, include a major foodstore, retail outlets and restaurants, a cinema, an 80-bedroom hotel, 85 homes, offices, and 700 to 800 car parking spaces, plus an outdoor performance area.
Work is due to start on the site late next year and is due for completion at the end of 2015. A full planning application is due to be submitted in the autumn.
