'Bride in black' attacked on wedding-day for daring to be different

A SHEFFIELD bride who wore black on her big day spent her wedding night in hospital – after jeering yobs attacked her because of her appearance.
Pink-haired goth Lucy Emmingham was pushed down a flight of concrete steps and knocked unconscious as she and her new husband left their wedding reception at the Stars and Mayfair Suite on Queens Road shortly after midnight on Halloween.

Lucy's shocked mum Andrea Moffatt told The Star the trouble began as they left their reception and three men approached them and started to taunt the 21-year-old bride about her appearance.

She became upset and her husband Edward asked them to stop but they continued to hurl abuse.

A scuffle started, during which the bride was shoved down a flight of concrete steps.

Andrea, from Frazer Road, Woodseats, said: "Most of the 200 guests had already left when Lucy and Edward decided to go on to the Psalter Hotel where a suite had been specially booked for them.

"As they were leaving three men came up and stood in their way, they then started saying really nasty things to Lucy.

"Edward asked them to stop, then one of them pushed Lucy deliberately.

"She fell, hit her head and was completely out of it for about three minutes."

The attackers fled before police arrived.

The bride was taken by ambulance to the Northern General along with her friend Jamie Johnstone, 21, who had to have her lip sewn up after a piercing was torn out by one of the men.

Another guest, a 14-year-old girl, was punched in the back of the head.

Lucy, a photography student at Norton College, spent seven hours in accident and emergency before being allowed home.

Her mum said: "She has a massive black eye and bruises all over her body. She has also completely skinned her forearms.

"Those men ruined what had been a wonderful day.

"I know Lucy looks a little different, but to taunt and then attack her just because of that is disgusting."

The newlyweds, from Woodseats, have now jetted off on honeymoon to Turkey after Lucy was given the all clear to travel.

Andrea said: "This has completely shaken them both up and I only hope they can enjoy the honeymoon.

"It's terrible what has happened but it could have been so much worse."

PURE EVIL DISGUSTING MAD DOGS. HOW DARE THEY HURT AN INNOCENT WOMAN JUST BECAUSE OF THE WAY SHE WAS DRESSED. HOPE THEY CATCH THEM BEFORE THEY DO IT TO SOMEBODY ELSE. You only have to look at the people on here who were taking the mickey the other day.

How unfortunate for her.

Considering it happened so late on in the day, I think it would be best to put it down as happening the day after, for memories sake.
Had a nice wedding day before experiencing the NuSheffield mentality the day after.

At the end of day, she is happily married the pathetic jokes of men or should I say little boys who pushed her probably live very empty lives.

Enjoy your honeymoon luv, forget about them idiots and enjoy yourself :)

****LUCY EMMINGHAM IS MY SISTER AND I SPENT THE WHOLE NIGHT WITH HER IN THE HOSPITAL ALONG WITH DESTRUAGHT FAMILY, LUCY IS SUCH A BRIGHT BUTIFULL AND FUN LOVING GIRL, AND FOR SOMONE TO DO WHAT THEY DID ON HER WEDDING NIGHT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN DISCUSTING! IT WAS SO DISTRESSING FOR ME TO SEE MY SISTER LAYING ON THE GROUND IN THE RAIN UNCONCIOUS IN HER WEDDING DRESS, A WHOLE WEDDING NIGHT WAS RUINED, AS SHE HAD HER HOENYMOON SUITE IN THE NORTHERN GENERAL A&E INSTEAD OF THE PSALTER HOTEL.. I HOPE THESE MINDLESS PIGS GET THEIR JUST DESSERTS!

This disgusting and cowardly attack was possible because of the lack of a credible police presence on our streets.

Also, there is a perception by cowards such as these that, even if caught, any punishment would be lenient compared with the crime.

Most violent attacks and acts of arson and anti-social behaviour happen at night. Yet, I notice a distinct lack of appropriate police presence on the estates and on the outskirts of the city at exactly this time.

Shame on you the Government for allowing these cowardly thugs to feel they could do this attack on Lucy.

Shame on you the South Yorkshire Police for failing in your responsibility of care to Lucy.

Shame on you the judges for not sentencing such criminals to maximum sentences with no parole.

Shame on us all for voting for spineless, greedy, and fraudulent politicians.

BOTH OF US ARE FINDING THIS HARD TO BELEIVE WHAT HAPPEND TO OUR DUAGHTER AND NEW SON IN LAW ON THEIR NIGHT OF THEIR WEDDING, WHAT WAS A WONDERFULL AND JOYOUS OCCASION ENDED UP BEING A TRAGIC NIGHT THAT THE WHOLE FAMILY ARE STILL COMING TO TERMS WITH.
LUCY IS AN A LEVEL STUDENT FINISHING HER PHOTOGRAPHY DEGREE, SHE WOULDNT HURT A FLY, OUR WISH NOW IS FOR THESE MINDLESS THUGS TO BE CAUGHT AND JUSTICE TO BE DONE, AND THAT LUCY AND ED ENJOY THEIR HONEYMOON IN PEACE.
