30,000 expected at Sheffield Christmas lights switch-on
CROWDS of more than 30,000 spectators are set to flock to the Christmas lights switch-on in Sheffield city centre this Sunday.
Pop act Little Boots and Alphabeat, and soul singer Beverley Knight, are among the attractions on the main stage in Barker's Pool.
Children's characters including Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Peppa Pig and Santa will be keeping kids entertained.
Other attractions include a toy fair, traditional German Christmas market, fun fair rides, craft market and street entertainment.
Snowmen, a snow machine and real huskies will help create a wintry feeling in the city centre.
The fun starts at 1pm and runs through until 5.30pm.
Coun Colin Ross, cabinet member for employment, enterprise and development, said: "The Christmas lights switch on is one of the city centre's key events."
* TAKE That superstar Gary Barlow, rock legend Bryan Adams and Sheffield's Eliot Kennedy have written three new songs - for the city's own crooner Paul Pashley.
Former Myrtle Springs School pupil Paul, 30, whose parents still live in Arbourthorne, will perform one of the tracks in a world exclusive at Sunday's Sheffield Christmas lights switch on.
Singer songwriter Eliot is also on stage to give the first public performance of his new charity song, World At Your Feet - which has now been adopted as the official anthem of the Sheffield 2018 Back The Bid campaign, to bring World Cup matches to the city.
