In response to Peter Wolstenholme’s letter regarding the University of Sheffield’s new building, The Diamond. It was in fact the Jessop Edwardian building that was demolished to make way for the new home for the department of engineering.

The old Edwardian block was derelict and totally unsuitable for the needs of a prestigious department which attracts students from all over the world, a 21st century building for 21st century technology.

It is also a fact that the original Victorian building was painstakingly restored at great expense to its original glory and is home to the faculty of music, again an appropriate building for the department it houses.
