20 mph zone spend criticism

Have your say

OPPOSITION Lib Dem councillors in Sheffield have criticised the ruling Labour group for spending £32,000 in the last nine months on developing 20mph zones in residential streets - without having yet set one up.

The money has been used for consultation with community groups but no decisions have yet been made on which areas should receive the reduced speed limits. Coun Ian Auckland, Lib Dem transport spokesman, said: “This money should have put to good use, not splashed on reports and studies.”

But the council said consultation was needed to ensure the zones were created in the most effective areas.
