ONE listen to their album Hysterics and you wonder how the parents of Rolo Tomassi's James Spence could put up with the band rehearsing in their Stocksbridge home.
Fans will argue it is a good job they did as the youngsters are now NME darlings and on one of their biggest tours yet – landing at Sheffield University's Fuzz Club tonight.
Rolo were the final band to play the Classic Rock Bar on Ecclesall Road before it made way for, yes you guessed it, more flats. That was also their first gig. They invited along Bring Me The Horizon to fatten the bill, featuring fellow Stocksbridge singer Oli Sykes.
That's not the only thing to have changed, James reckons there's less sibling rivalry with younger sister Eva, Rolo's tenacious singer.
"Over the course of three years we've got on better as a result of spending time together," says the keyboards man. "In terms of roles she writes the majority of the lyrics, I write some and the rest we do together. I cannot deny we have sibling arguments. She's 18 months younger but we grew up listening to similar things and used to go to gigs together."
Now 20, James is also glad band members are older than when they began turning in their often challenging flavour of clever rock as they l have less hassle about where they play because of their age.
"I love the idea of going off in a van for months not knowing who comes to see us, taking every opportunity and maintaining the idea of having fun, spending time with our best friends."
