WATH Folk Festival brings the county's music scene to life next weekend with an all-star line up of performers from a wide range of the acoustic scene.
Headliners are Scotland's premier folk outfit, Battlefield Band.
They have been performing on the international scene for more than three decades, inspired by their rich heritage of Celtic music and fired by the strength of the modern Scottish cultural scene.
The band pioneered the integration of bagpipes with fiddle, keyboards, guitar and voice, and mix old songs and tunes with new self-penned material, played on ancient and modern instruments.
Founded by a group of friends in 1969 and named after the Battlefield area of Glasgow, the group is now equally at home playing almost anywhere in the world, from Europe to Australia, Asia to the States.
In 2003, Battlefield Band were awarded Best Live Act at the first annual Scots Trad Music Awards, which celebrate Scotland's thriving traditional musical scene.
Today, Battlefield Band's place on the folk scene is so well established that they have become the benchmark against which others are compared.
Over the years new members have brought fresh ideas, music, instruments, attitudes and influences, leading to continued creativity, freshness and enthusiasm. Thirty years on they still lead the way for Scottish music, always involving their ever widening audience as they travel the world. Wath Festival will run over the May Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday, May 2 to Sunday, May 4.
