Little Man Tate's Jon Windle put his feelings for the Steel City right out there at their homecoming gig on Friday night.
Within seconds of appearing on stage beer was flying everywhere as the South Yorkshire crowd, giddy that the boys were back i
n town, went mad for the music.
It was the last night of their UK tour which has covered the length and breadth of the country over the past two months, but Jon was certain he'd "saved the best 'til last."
Looking dapper in a snug black leather jacket and swigging from a can Carling (what else in this venue?), he had them in the palm of his hand as he went through a series of tracks from both the first and second albums, About What You Know and Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy.
The bouncy Britpop beats had the crowd-surfers out in force, while others settled for bopping and singing along in tracks like Boy in the Anorak and European Lover.
Unsuitable girls, their boyfriends, and being 23, still make up much of their testerone fuelled material - a theme which reached its climax with a silver thong being pelted at the stage on the opening bars of Sexy In Latin, and continued with a series of X-rated hand actions from Jon throughout the song.
The lighting sometimes let it down a bit - with the stage plunged into darkness for several seconds at different stages throughout the show.
But perhaps that was the planned effect - and anyway, it certainly didn't matter to the crowd if they couldn't see them. They could hear the guitars, feel the drums, and singalong with the catchy chorusus, and these were the things charging the frenzied atmosphere.
Little Man Tate, I think it's safe to say your love is requited.
