THOUSANDS of sets of ears and feet have been entertained at Herringthorpe Leisure Centre but tomorrow the Rotherham venue hosts its 165th and last gig for the Classic Rock Society.
With the town's leisure facilities undergoing something of a revolution, Norwegian band Magic Pie, pictured above, become the final headline act on their first trip to the UK.
"The HLC is the latest South Yorkshire landmark to fall to 'progress' -
it will be greatly missed by members," says Martin Hudson of the CRS.
"There are a lot of memories in this building, of great bands, of new bands, of friends and of some fantastic music.
"This is the end of an era."
Magic Pie have enjoyed success in Europe and America with a growing fan base in the UK – two CRS members from Chile are diverting from a holiday in Paris to attend.
Influences include Spock's Beard, Deep Purple, Yes, Dream Theater, Floyd and Uriah Heep.
Supporting them are The Fry Brothers, comprising Chris and Dan from Magenta.
CRS shows will continue at the Montgomery Hall, Wath upon Dearne and at the Manor Barn, Kimberworth. Next up are Panic Room, Final Conflict and Dead Like Harry at Wath next Saturday.
