CONTRARY to their name, One Night Only are about to tour again and they are taking local bands along for the ride.
With their new single It's About Time in the shops Monday, the Yorkshire bunch have three Sheffield acts vying to be the support on their May 12 Leadmill show courtesy of an online contest.
One band in each town will land the opening slot at their
local gig and one overall winner, chosen post tour by ONO, will spend two days in their record label's studio making a demo.
ONO picked Area 15, Airheads and Paperdots from Mp3s sent to their website www.onenightonlyonline.com/competition – and the public now votes on which band will play a 20-minute set.
A wild night out with the BozzTHE big man of electropop – Bozz from synth terrors Hiem – disturbs the relative peace of Dulo tomorrow night alongside Solid State as he shows what he's been up to outside of his duo, namely new record The Woods.
The gathering beside Sheffield's Waitrose is part of a weekend of events hosted by Society, also celebrating the release of new records by Hot Coins and Red Rack 'Em. The latter "is an awesome deep disco vibe like metro area or Maurice Fulton" according to Society mouth Stuart Ledger.
They get a proper toasting tonight at Lights Down Low, at Stars & Mayfair on Queens Road, 10-3am.
Prepare to Phil your boots againDETAILS are emerging of this years Philadelphia Blues Festival – to take place in one venue rather than several.
Upstairs at the George IV, on Infirmary Road, is the setting for the enduring annual event, which begins on May 16 with John Gomm followed by The Hummingbirds Blues Band.
Saturday opens at noon with the multi-talented Billy Martin Jnr who will also be the festival compere and doing spots throughout. He's followed by former Crowley's Dead-turned solo singer/songwriter Andrew Oxley and R&B band Willie Brown's Rhythm Method.
Also booked are R&B quintet Sneaking Suspicion and father and son duo M&J Blues, with virtuoso guitar from Mark Lyall.
Just back from New Zealand and California, Tom Rodwell plays ahead of Sheffield blues legend Frank White accompanied by Dale Storr, one of the best New Orleans-style piano players in England.
