DONCASTER'S Ewen Sergison finished in the driving seat in the 2008 Monoposto Formula Ford Championship.
The 32-year-old, who has been competing in the Championship since 1993, won seven of the 10 races that he contested.
The Doncaster driver got the season off to a winnIng start at Snetterton back in April when he left rivals in his tracks from lap five onwards in his new untried car after starting in second place on the grid.
Sergison repeated his success the second round on the same circuit the following day.
Sergison started round three at Silverstone at the end of the month in pole position, but an engine fault left him battling to hang on to third place.
He led from start to finish in the next round at Mallory Park at the end of May after starting the race second on the grid.
Rounds five and six were held at the Rockingham Raceway.
Sergison took pole and won round five and looked all set to record a double the following day when leading with only two corners to go but he spun and lost the lead and had to settle for second spot.
But he recorded the fastest lap on the day and set a new and course record in class.
Rounds seven and eight were contested on a new circuit in North Wales.
A broken fuel line meant that Sergison had to start from the back of the grid on round seven, but he battled his way through the field and then took advantage of the leader hitting another car to claim his fifth win.
He claimed his sixth win the following day when leading from flag to flag
The Doncaster driver collected his third successive win at Oulton Park.
Rounds 10 and 11 were held on Sergison's 'home' circuit of Caldwell Park in Louth.
Going into the meeting there was only one driver who could deny Sergison the championship, and he needed to win the final four rounds and get a point for the fastest lap in them all to beat him by three points, meaning that the Doncaster man could afford to finish in ninth place.
Starting in second place on the grid, Sergison just concentrated on completing the race and settled for fifth place to claim the title with three rounds to spare.
"It was a very emotional moment," said Sergison at the family-run garage in Hyde Park where his dad Jock, who still competes after nearly 40 years in the sport, builds the car's engine and prepares it to race.
"We are one of the smallest budget team in Championship and receive no outside help other than two sets of tyres bought by B S Construction, a local steel construction firm, and Sign line, who stickered my car up for free," he said.
