GIANT-KILLING Rotherham United took Leeds United's scalp in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy game at Sheffield's Don Valley tonight.
Mark Robins' likely lads went ahead, saw that lead taken away by a Leeds leveller, but then bounced back in emphatic style.

The South Yorkshire side thoroughly deserved the win.

They had gone into tonight with every reason not to be intimidated by their League One Yorkshire neighbours.

Only one team, Chesterfield, had got the better of them previously this season.

And they had beaten the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, too.

In the previous four games they had scored nine and conceded just three too.

The Northern Section second round match saw Leeds almost go ahead in the sixth minute in the game's first chance, Robert Snodgrass's left footed freekick landing flush on the bar.

Three minutes later Millers allowed Leeds' busy winger Andy Robinson too much room; he fired a shot parried by goalie Andy Warrington.
Yet the Millers took the lead with their first proper incursion.
A long throw in from the left flank was headed backwards by Ian Sharps for 1-0 over a flailing out-of-position Leeds keeper David Lucas at 17 minutes.

The goal seemed to deflate Leeds for a while, with Millers playing some decent football down the right flank.

Yet they had some luck when Enoch Showunmi somehow avoided a booking with a late tackle on 27 minutes on Mark Hudson.

And Leeds equalised through Jonathan Howson on the half-hour after the West Yorkshirmen got several players pressing in the box.
They had one shot blocked before Howson drilled in low to the keeper's left.

Warrington was almost beaten by a Neil Kilkenny drive past his right post on 40 mins.

But Rueben Reid was the main difference in the first half.

Encouraged by Millers fans, he took the game by the scruff of the neck and raced in from the right flank.

Unable to cope with his pace a defender upended him for a penalty. Hudson's initial shot was saved but he planted in the rebound for 2-1.

And two minutes into the second half Drewe Broughton connected perfectly with his forehead to put the Millers further ahead.

Astonishingly, it was 4-1 after 52 minutes when Nick Fenton easily outjumped his marker at a corner to head home.

But Millers lead was cut when Showunmi cut in from the left wing and embarrassed Warrington with a near post drive which found its way off the goalie into the roof of the net.

Reid fired one wide of the angle on 65 minutes as he tried to relieve Leeds' pressure at the other end of Sheffield's Don Valley.

Leeds put on Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio looking to unlock Millers' defence after 70 mins.

Becchio's header hit the bar with 15 mins left and Warrington made four late fine saves.

But some Leeds travellers had sloped off back down the M1 by the time the final whistle went.
