RUSS Smith in Somerset is trying to find his uncle, Thomas Frederick Irving, who use to live on Owler Lane, Sheffield.
Russ says: "He was born in Appleby, Westmorland in 1933 and moved with his family to Sheffield in the mid 1950s. His late wife was Maisie and he had daughters Margaret, Jackie, Sam, Karen and Sandra and a son, Steve. Can anyone help?"

A GROUP of ex- Ships Company members from the now decommissioned Amphibious Assault ship HMS Intrepid have started a campaign to have the ship preserved as a museum in honour of those who served on her and also her strategic role in the South Atlantic Campaign of 1982.

And they are looking for people who formerly served on HMS Intrepid or sister ship HMS Fearless - or who took part in the Falklands conflict - to help save the Intrepid or just to meet up with old ship mates.

Intrepid and Fearless played a vital role in the conflict, landing most of the troops involved in the campaign. Both ships saw action in San Carlos Sound during relentless air raids from Argentinean Jet fighters. Neither suffered any damage though one landing craft from HMS Fearless was struck by a bomb, killing six.

A petition was started by Terry Ward to save Both Fearless and Intrepid.

Intrepid has been in Portsmouth Harbour since the decision to dispose of her was made in 1999. Fearless has already been towed from the harbour and is now in Gent, Belgium waiting recycling. The Ex-Ships Company members are hoping to persuade the government to save the ship and spend money on preserving her by making her into a museum ship which could be docked in Portsmouth.

If you served on HMS Intrepid or HMS Fearless or took part in the fight for the Falkland Islands and would like to get involved in the campaign to save Intrepid, or if you just want to join up and meet old ship mates then you can find the Old Boys via the internet.
