They Orton to know better
A CITY centre venue in the shadow of the huge Moorfoot building is the perhaps unlikely setting for live drama next week.
Dempsey's Bar & Club, tucked away on Hereford Street, has only recently begun hosting theatre and makes it mark from Wednesday to Friday with Joe Orton's outrageous black farce Funeral Games.
"Given Joe Orton's notoriety in his heyday this seemed like a good one to take there," says Common End cast member Pam Hilton. The story follows megalomaniac cult leader Pringle whose perverted views turn religion upside down, with hilarious and surreal consequences.
Funeral Games is a comedy with "a wickedly delicious plot, a defrocked priest and a Dundee cake" designed to shock and delight audiences.
Tickets, via 0114-272 8074, cost 8 (6 concessions).
