Lantern gets a rub for laughs

THREE of the best female comics working on the UK circuit bring their laughs to Sheffield this weekend as Brighton comedy night Funnyhaha shifts up north.

The two-night stop at The Lantern Theatre, in Nether Edge, represents a return to her home county for cheeky Rotherham comedienne Julie Jepson, pictured above, previewing her Edinburgh-bound Inner Badger set tonight and tomorrow, 8pm.

For promoter/host Jenny Sides it is something of a reunion, she and Julie having first met at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.

"This is a one-off comedy collaborative to support one of Clapp Trapp Cabaret's most popular performers as she previews her Edinburgh Fringe show," says Jenny.

Headlining the night is Jo Enright, a familiar face from That Peter Kay Thing, Phoenix Nights, Labrats and Alan Partridge. The evening is hosted by feisty Maureen Younger, a regular guest panellist on the Late Show.

Tickets 8 from Jack's Records.

n The Last Laugh Comedy Club also gets a visit from an old flame for two nights – Paul Tonkinson fresh from his recent appearance on BBC1's Michael McIntrye's Comedy Roadshow. Joining Paul on the bill is Brummie comic Sean Percival, deadpan comic Mike Newall with Greg Cook (Sat) and Caimh McDonnell (Fri).
