The ladies that lunch
We meet every month, a get together
And in John Lewis we sit and say whether
We will choose coffee or tea
What is it to be
Hot chocolate if we don't like the weather
But all those aches and pains
And the blood running slow through our veins
Which one will be able
to bring to our table
the hot drinks that we need when it rains
Now Liz is not always well
And Audrey's back, I can tell
is playing her up
Can she bring back the cup
Of tea or coffee they sell
Now Pauline has taken a turn
She's dizzy, so it's not good to learn
That I am the fittest today
And will be the best with the tray
If I don't get the shakes on return
So perhaps we will have to concede
That as time goes by we will need
A spare pair of hands
Not hide our head in the sands
Of time, going past at speed
Now Kathleen she's one I recall,
who doesn't do Doctor's at all
to her GP she's a stranger
Not for her is the danger
Of banging her head on the wall.
And we can't send Alison to collect
Even though she's the youngest yet
She's not in a position
To follow the tradition
Of sending the youngest to get
The coffees and teas for us all
on whom does the honour fall
perhaps we will find
that some days are kind
and we all are more on the ball.
