Another customer is extremely happy to find herself in the Five Star chippy the night we called in.
“I’ve been to Bridlington for fish and chips, I’ve been to Whitby, but they’re not a patch on Crookes,” she said.
Admittedly she’s in a merry mood. But the Crookes fan has a point.
While some might prefer the nearby Admiral, our choice is no slouch in the fish and chips department.
We each had a Five Star £4 box, which turned out to be an astonishingly large portion of food. Most importantly, the fish was thick, pleasingly white and fluffy, and coated in a crisp, very golden batter.
The chips perhaps didn’t quite hit the mark, but mushy peas and sausage were thrown in too, so it really is all there.
Bridlington and Whitby will be quaking in their boots.
