Sweet Georgia Brown! The world famous Harlem Globetrotters bounced back for more slam dunk family fun at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.
Their signature tune whistled around the venue as the basketball wizards entertained with mesmerising ball spinning tricks, high-flying dunks and comedy routines.
And this time fans got to decide the rules by voting online to introduce some game-changing terms ahead of the visit on the 2014 Fans Rule World Tour. The Globetrotters, who remained on the court for autographs and photographs with fans after the show, were celebrating their 88th consecutive year.
Legends of the past include the likes of Curly Neal, Meadow ‘Meadowlark’ Lemon and Sweet Lou Dunbar.
Today’s modern day greats include Special K Daley, Big Easy Lofton, Flight Time Lang, Dizzy Grant, and Scooter Christensen – along with TNT Maddox, another of the Globetrotter’s first female players in nearly two decades, plus 7ft 8ins Tiny Sturgess, the Guinness World Record holder as the World’s Tallest Professional Basketball Player.
The team have played over 22,000 wins and lost just 345 games – a percentage of 1.5 per cent.
Their last defeat was seven years ago and they continued their winning ways with an exhibition friendly held in Sheffied.
Fan Neil Rushby told The Star, via Twitter @The_NeilRushby: “Great show with the @Globies great entertainment. Will come to watch again!”
