A Sheffield skate park was paid an ‘overwhelming’ all-star visit by an American professional BMX team.

Sunday Bikes BMX team from California held a session with about 150 youngsters at the Onboard skate park in Little London Road.

The bikers – including top names in the sport Chris Chiles, Gary Young, Danny Stanzl and Mark Burnett – put on a display of amazing tricks and backflips for the crowds at the venue.

The team came to Sheffield as part of a tour of four BMX shops in the UK – visiting Waller BMX at Onboard skate park two years after the not-for-profit venue opened.

Amy Cooper, a director and founder at the skate park, said: “BMXing is a hugely growing sport at the moment and we are trying to show people how great it is.

“They were super talented. I was in awe and the young people were gobsmacked and overwhelmed. For a lot of them Gary Young is their hero and they have been following him for years.

“One of them said, ‘I feel like a 13-year-old girl at a One Direction Concert!’.”
