Hundreds of cyclists saddled up and took to their bikes to raise vital cash for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital.
Some 200 fundraisers took part in The Big Pedal in Barnsley with a choice of three routes available – two, four or 35 miles.
Helen Gentle, event organiser, said: “It was a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all those who kindly came along to participate.
“We are overwhelmed by the support from people within the Barnsley community and surrounding areas and it’s great to see how they rallied together for our first cycle against cancer in the area.”
Julie Ramskill, who took part with relatives, said: “As a family, we decided to take part in The Big Pedal.
“We had a great time and we love raising money for this fantastic charity.”
Weston Park Hospital is the only specialist cancer hospital in the region and one of only four in England.
It has the only radiotherapy department in South Yorkshire and provides cancer treatment services for patients from Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Worksop and Chesterfield.
The hospital’s Cancer Charity is trying to raise £1.5 million to continue funding pioneering cancer research and to help improve the treatments and care for people living with cancer.
