Former England football ace Paul Merson will appear as the guest of honour at a glitzy black tie event for a special Doncaster charity in December.

Paul, a current star of Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show, is set to provide guests with an entertaining and honest account of his career, life, and ups and downs.

The former Arsenal, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough star, who netted 127 goals in more than 600 games in a career spanning 27 years, fought a well publicised battle with drink and drugs during and after his playing days.

‘Merse’ - who was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 1989 - won the League championship twice while at Arsenal, and also picked up FA Cup, League Cup, Community Shield and UEFA Cup Winners Cup medals during an illustrious career – in which he also played for Portsmouth and Walsall.

The evening will be held at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday, December 1, and will raise money for the Eve Merton Dreams Trust which helps Doncaster’s seriously and terminally ill cancer patients.

Earlier this year, the charity staged a football match at the stadium, with former stars rolling back the years to help raise cash.

It will also feature a three-course meal, comedian Malcolm Lord as compere, music from James Taplin and a charity auction.

Tickets are £30 per person. To book, email info@evetrust.co.uk or phone 07974 689 649.
