REVIEW: Billy Martin Jnr, Crookes Social Club on Thursday

SOME kids really have got the blues so this Blues Extravaganza is in aid of a good cause, namely Sheffield Children's Hospital scanner appeal.

As well as Billy, the Steve French Band, the Hummingbirds Blues Band, Boogie Boy Sam and Steve Cosgrove all play on Thursday night. And a mere fiver gets you in - advance tickets from Wavelength Music, London Road, or any of the performers.

Vying for your attention at city centre pub The Grapes the same night is WagonWheelMedia's new midweek show WagonWheel Presents..., a last Thursday of each month gathering of Americana, alt-country, folk, roots, blues "and anything else inbetween that tickles our fancy".

This first one features rootsy four piece Grassoline, from Chesterfield, and a duo of singer/songwriters in the shape of former Crowley's Dead frontman Andrew Oxley and John Batchelor.

Before all that you can catch New Orleans-style piano player Dale Storr playing West Street haven The Wick At Both Ends tonight - as well as Broomhill's Nottingham House on Saturday.
