REVIEW - Glenn Marples and Friends. The Boardwalk. Sunday, October 24, 2010.

A hero's reception awaited the return to the Sheffield stage of one of the city's most endearing rockers at the Boardwalk on Sunday.

Glenn Marples, frontman of legendary rock acts like Panza Division and Lonely Hearts, was playing his first local show in nearly two decades.

The night also hailed the return of former Radio Hallam DJ and rock DJ Colin Slade who helped out on auction duties.

The 'Glenn Marples and Friends' gig was in aid of Help A Child Have A Chance, the charity set up in the memory of the DJ's former station colleague, Dave Kilner.

Glenn Marples left Sheffield for sunnier climes in the shape of Ibiza in the 1990s and was a true leader in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal Movement in the early 1980s.

His Boardwalk line-up included another enduring Sheffield rocker, Andy Barrott, former guitarist in Geddes Axe, Swampwalk and others.

Glenn Marples's most recent album, Get Up, was released this and the show included nods to every decade of his career and finished with a storming cover of Chuck Berry's Johnny B Good.
