Music Notes
Big picture for Country
WITH a new album due this autumn, vintage rockers Big Country continue their 30th anniversary celebrations by performing classic 1983 debut album The Crossing in its entirety at Sheffield’s O2 Academy on Saturday.
After shifting over two million copies in the UK and spawning two top 10 hits, a deluxe edition emerged last week with a wealth of previously unreleased demos and mixes.
“To get the opportunity to play an entire album is very cool,” says bassist Tony Butler. “This will give us the chance to play songs never performed before alongside well known ones.”
The Alarm’s Mike Peters now handles lead vocals in place of Stuart Adamson, who died in 2001. Big Country re-united with Crossing producer Steve Lillywhite for their first single in 12 years, Another Country.
Trust us we’re musicians
GROUPLOVE arguably sport one of the best – if a tad cynical – album titles of recent years.
And the release of Colours on Monday as the third single from Never Trust A Happy Song prompts the current UK headline tour, landing them at The Leadmill on Saturday.
The LA band have had consistent radio support and previous single Tongue Tied did them favours when it featured in the global Apple iPod Touch TV ad which aired over here from December.

Time for a Hair-ing-aid
SOME bands spend a grand on making a single. Gauntlet Hair singer/guitarist Andy R just spent time with his gran.
He and drumming musical partner Craig Nice recorded My Christ, Need To Retire and Minimal Armageddon in the elderly relative’s Denver home having relocated from Chicago.
It is out this week ahead of their debut tour reaching Sheffield’s Great Gatsby on Monday.
The tunes expand on the anthemic noise-pop of previous singles and their debut self-titled album, refining the template of trunk-rattling bass, ecstatic and tinny post-punk guitar.
The pair have been playing music together since they were teenagers
