Chart band to open venue

LOCAL heroes Reverend And The Makers have been unveiled as the act to open Sheffield's newest live music venue.

The chart band fronted by former Boardwalk barman Jon McClure will be the first to tread the boards at the former Roxy building, currently undergoing a 3 million transformation.

The band will perform a one-off show to celebrate the launch of Carling Academy Sheffield on Friday, April 11, by which time they are expected to have recorded the follow-up to successful debut album The State Of Things.

Jon has earned a reputation for high energy shows and causing controversy in interviews, and is one of a new generation of stars along with Arctic Monkeys to put Sheffield on the international music map.

Brit Award winner KT Tunstall, Leeds favourites The Pigeon Detectives, and Manchester indie veterans James have already announced shows at the Arundel Street venue.

“Sheffield is a great city with not only a fantastic musical history but also a thriving and exciting current scene and the new Academy is a great addition to that,” said Matt Wooliscroft of show promoters SJM Concerts, one of the major shareholders in the Academy Music Group said.

“It’s fantastic news that Reverend And The Makers, being such a high profile act, will launch Carling Academy Sheffield in April for a Yorkshire homecoming.”
