Celebrations at St Andrew's Community Church, Dronfield

November ended in celebratory mood at St Andrew's.

On Sunday 22 November a packed church joined a service of Confirmation in which 30 people were confirmed – 6 from St Andrews and 24 from 8 neighbouring churches, The service was led by the Bishop of Derby, Right Reverend Alastair Redfern and - on behalf of the Methodist and United reformed Churches - Rev Jonathan Haigh, Minister at St Andrew's. A further 7 priests from the Parish of Dronfield with Holmesfield and the Chesterfield Deanery also took part in the service

2 days later, the church was overflowing to hear Adrian Plass, a well-known Christian comedian, and his wife Bridget. As well as humour and poetry, they also spoke about their experiences of working with street children in Bolivia. Singer Philppa Hanna also took part in the event

Celebrations continued on St Andrew's Day, Sunday 30 November, when another full congregation shared in the 35th anniversary of the church. During the service 6 people were welcomed into membership and Rob Hubbard gave an amusing example of his work as the Parish Children's Worker. A later service saw 5 Baptisms take place.

The same evening saw over 80 people enjoy a meal and entertainment at Willersley Castle near Cromford. The party included members of St John the Baptist Church who had worked in the 1970s to establish St Andrew's Church when the large housing estate that surrounds it was being built.

The church is now busily preparing for a number of events in the days before Christmas. These include a Family Christingle Workshop with carols on 13 December, a visit by the Silhouette Theatre Company on 14 December, to perform a family friendly version of "A Christmas Carol". On Friday 19 December, there will be community carol singing round the tree outside the church; pupils from St Andrew's Primary School will perform musical items and the Saints Alive Puppets will also take part

St Andrew's Community Church is a partnership of the Anglican, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. Information about the church and its activities can be obtained on 01246 416062.
