Bap's out for the lads and lasses

FEW artists can lay claim to a CV that includes Van Morrison and Pete Doherty alongside a fanbase that features the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Then Bap Kennedy's 20 years in music haven't been that ordinary, as his latest album Howl On suggests - inspired by childhood memories of the 1969 moon landings, cowboys and rock stars from Elvis to Hendrix.

For his fourth solo album Bap relocated himself back home to Northern Ireland – for the first time writing and recording an album in his homeland, although the cover shot was taken in Nashville.

Previous album The Big Picture was recorded at Van Morrison's studio in Somerset, including a contribution from the landlord and Pogues singer Shane MacGowan's unmistakable vocals on the aptly titled On The Mighty Ocean Alcohol.

Bap toured with Mark Knopfler last year before marrying singer songwriter, author and artist Brenda Kennedy, whose debut album Banish The Blue Day he had produced.

The honest rootsy feel of Howl On brings a UK tour that begins on Tuesday at The Boardwalk.
