Legendary Happy Mondays star Bez will be shaking his maracas and twisting his melon when he comes to Doncaster this weekend.
The Mancunian musical star, who shot to fame in the early 90s as dancer with the Madchester icons, will be peforming a DJ set at town centre club Social on Saturday.
The star, real name Mark Berry, will be DJing live after Oasis tribute band Noasis at the Priory Walk club from midnight. The free gig by the tribute band to the Gallagher brothers, will get underway at 9pm.
He was maraca player, dancer and “mascot” for the band who enjoyed a string of hits with songs such as Step On, Kinky Afro and Loose Fit.
After the Happy Mondays broke up, Bez became a member of Black Grape, a group founded by Mondays band-mate Shaun Ryder, but he left in 1997.
He appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2005, in order to pay off his outstanding tax bills, and was voted as the winner of the series.
He has joined the Happy Mondays on several occasions for festival dates and tours following the band’s reformation.
In March this year he announced his intention to stand as an independent candidate for the Salford and Eccles constituency and is running on a platform of “free energy, free food and free anything.”
