Student Maxine Sykes could soon be giving up the lecture theatre for the catwalk after reaching the finals of one of the country’s top modelling competitions.
Maxine, who is 20, and lives with her family in the Hope Valley, currently studies exhibition and museum design at Lincoln University.
But that could all change if she wins the final of the Top Model UK 2014 competition.
Maxine applied for the national fashion contest seeing an advert online and was surprised when she was selected from more than 1,000 applicants and narrowed down to the final 17 models.
Since entering the competition Maxine – who is being sponsored by the Lynda V Price salon and spa on Ecclesall Road in Sheffield - has already taken part in the world famous London Fashion Week.
Now she has to wait for the finals of the competition, which will take place in London from April 4 to 6.
And she will also be awaiting the outcome of a public vote award – at www.topmodeluk.com/VoteOnline - with all the proceeds going to top charity Children with Cancer UK.
“To be honest, it was my sister Morgan who was always more interested in modelling than I was,” said Maxine.
“I was always more interesting in working with horses and mucking out the stables, but this competition came along and it’s been a fantastic opportunity - and the support of Lynda Price has made it all possible,” she added.
“Lynda’s salon has been a place for many firsts in my life - my first ever leg wax, massage, eye brow shaping, getting my nails done and even getting my ears pierced! - and now she’s backing me through this incredible opportunity.
“I signed up for the competition not really expecting anything to come of it and now I’m just taking it one step at a time.”
