TAKEAWAY TEST - Greedy Greek, Castle Square, Sheffield

MAKE sure you leave some room if you are tempted by a bite to eat at Sheffield's aptly-named Greedy Greek cafe.

The girls at the city centre takeaway served up a treat when I ordered a chicken and meatball felafel - but it was comfortably big enough for two!

There's food to suit all tastes, with items ranging from breakfasts to burgers, salads to filled pitta breads and halal meat for Muslim customers.

Also available are Greek-style pastries and cakes.

Ordering is in person at the Castle Square kiosk, although it offers a telephone ordering service for hungry workers if they are in a group and are regular customers.

Service is quick, with your order made up in front of you in just a few minutes, queues permitting.

I watched as my wrap was filled with enormous chunks of freshly-cooked meat, plus lettuce, juicy cherry tomatoes and a combination of spicy and yoghurt sauces.

It was so big it barely fitted in the bag it had been wrapped in to take back up to the office.

Sometimes, quality suffers when there is quantity but not so here - full marks for the taste.

Foolishly, I thought I might have room for some side orders, so added them to the order.

The vine leaves were on special offer - two for 80 pence - so I gave them a go and found them well-filled and flavoursome.

But my other side order, a supposedly-small salad which included olives, sun dried tomatoes, Greek cheese and a yoghurty tzatziki dressing, was too much to handle on top of everything else, so it was one to take home for later.

Here, too, there was both quality and quantity.

The cafe, which has a few seats outside, is an offshoot of the Hunters Bar-based deli and restaurant, on Sharrow Vale Road, and is a great addition to the diverse range of eateries in the city centre.

Might be worth a trip to the gym later on the way home, however, to work it all off!Takeaway Facts
