TAKEAWAY TEST: Benito's, 48 Birley Moor Road, Sheffield
WE know Benito's is good because it's a regular haunt.
But if you've never been before you'd guess you'd come to the right place as soon as you walk through the door.
The place is busy.
On Saturday evening there were five chefs (all in smart smocks) working in the big open kitchen, a meeter-greeter receptionist and a couple of drivers around and about for good measure.
And the phone rings continually.
They've made an effort with the place too. Rustic wooden furniture, smart decoration, spotlights, prints on the walls, TV, that day's papers to read and a handmade Welcome to Benito's sign.
And everyone is pleasant, not just the order-taker who is paid to be. As a chef hands me my brown paper-wrapped parcel he says 'Enjoy your meal' with a smile. It does make a difference.
Every dish is made to order in front of you and it's quality stuff.
Our Calzone pizza was packed full of goodies and the Woodcutters pizza proved tasty as well – topped with recognisable ingredients, which is always a bonus.
The BBQ Chicken was a big hit – two big chicken fillets garnished with tomato and a wedge of lemon with a choice of two side dishes.
We went for chips (rather than wedges) and coleslaw.
The chips were good but the mushy pink coleslaw was a bit odd (might try the green salad next time).
The menu boast is 'Italian cuisine made in heaven.'
Well I wouldn't go quite that far but it is good stuff.
'Made in Sheffield' has a nice ring to it.
