Readers digest Naz’s cuisine with relish
Top restaurant: Head chef Mohammed Salim and owner Naz Hoque with their award.
AN INDIAN restaurant set up in South Yorkshire just a year ago has been named the Star’s Restaurant of the Year 2011.
Cafe Naaz owner Nazmul Hoque was presented with the accolade at his restaurant in Sandygate, Wath-upon-Dearne, Rotherham.
Naz said: “I’m very happy, I’m really excited and I couldn’t believe that I had won!
“When I found out I was so excited I couldn’t sleep.”
Naz is helped out by his younger brother Faz Hoque, who is the restaurant supervisor, and chef Mohammed Salim.
Naz has 13 years’ experience in the restaurant trade as a chef and business partner to his brother Anamul Hoque.
He has worked at restaurants in Sheffield and more recently at Zara’s Indian Restaurant in Tickhill.
Naz, who is originally from Bangladesh and came to the UK when he was 11, told The Star his time in the kitchen had fuelled his passion for Indian food and led to the creation of dozens of original takes on classic dishes.
He said: “All the traditional Indian favourites are on offer, together with some signature dishes and tandoori specialities.”
The restaurant is purpose- built and offers a modern take on Indian cuisine.
Ceiling-to-floor drapes divide the polished hardwood tables and there’s a relaxed and private feel to the dining area which seats 66. There is a private area for family parties or get-togethers.
