IN BRIEF

RENOWNED Sheffield chef Richard Smith is in nostalgic mood.

He's been tickling Sheffield tastebuds for 15 years at his restaurants and gastro pubs and now he's going back into the Crosspool kitchen to cook up a celebratory dinner.

The courses - Thai Tiger Prawn Cakes, honey glazed lamb shanks and trio of creme brulee - are straight from his original menus at Smith's.

"I'm cooking the best-sellers that accounted for 80 per cent of what people ordered for the first few years," says Richard. "I will also cook a few chef's treats, too. It should be a fun night out."

Tickets are 30.

DESPITE being one of the few veggie restaurants in Sheffield, the Bohemian on Chesterfield Road is still finding it tough.

"Vegetarians bring their partners, who still want to eat meat," says owner Camran Munir, who has run the little eaterie since 1996.

So the place has had a makeover and so has the menu. It's still largely veggie and vegan, but fish, chicken and red meat dishes have been added.

SHEFFIELD'S Asian restaurants are currying favour in a host of national awards.

Almas Brasserie at Dore was runner-up in the Best Curry Restaurant in the Midlands at the British Curry Awards and new Woodseats restaurant the Viraaj is the only one in Sheffield selected for a Curry Life magazine Award of Excellence. Awards will be dished out when the mag launches the UK Curry Chefs Club on November 30.

Meanwhile the Aagrah, Leopold Square, the Nawaab on West Street, Chesterfield Road's the Everest and the Saffron Club of Glossop Road are all in the Curry Capital of Britain Awards on December 8.

DESIGN your own festive hamper from today at the Nonna's pop-up shop in Kelham Island.

It's at The Chimney House venue, which recently brought the concept of Pop-Up Dining to the city - restaurants and chefs hire the place for a night and host their own event.

Customers can fill their hamper with a choice of Nonna's food and wine.

The shop is open daily Monday to Friday and on the weekend of December 4-5.
