Hearty fine food ideas for Dronfield pub
YOU don't have to be an expert to realise that this is not exactly the best time to take over a pub but that's what Andrea Collins and her family have done.
"People have said we are a bit mad," admits Andrea, busy transforming the old Hearts of Oak at Dronfield Woodhouse into the Hearty Oak Pub and Kitchen. The free house opens next Wednesday. (July 1.)
She and her partner, Andrew Gowans, have bought the Thirties -built pub from Punch Taverns and aim to turn it into a real beer and best of British food stop.
They took over the day their daughter Georgia was born. The third partner in the free house is Andrew's mum Margaret, the licensee.
The Tudorbethan pub, built as a Stones flagship, bears a resemblance to the old Black-a-Moor at Troway, now the Inn at Troway, which was built at the same time by Stones.
There's been a big refurbishment inside and out and the pub will have three separate areas, the Oak Bar with pool table, pub and dining room and conservatory.
Head chef Sam Binny will source local produce (for meat, Border View Farm is next door) for a range of home made bar snacks, lunches and dinners.
There are nine pumps and the Abbeydale Brewery will be providing beers for two.
