Fins ain't what they used to be

BLUEFIN, the award-winning Sheffield fish restaurant on Ecclesall Road, has closed after three and a half years.

Head chef Gareth Nutter denies the recent opening of the bigger Loch Fyne fish restaurant had anything to do with the closure.

"We were struggling for trade during the week," says Gareth, now looking for a new job.

Bluefin was seen as the successor to Slammers, the trendy fish restaurant set up by Cary Brown and for whom Gareth worked as head chef.

In fact Gareth was hired by the then owner, a former customer at Slammers, so he could continue enjoying the food.

But the layout of the restaurant, previously a Thai eaterie, with the main dining room upstairs, may not have helped the business.

Current owners Steve Rhodes and Dave Clarke were today considering what to do next.
