FIREFIGHTERS in Rotherham are to attend a cookery course run from their station – in a bid to reduce the number of kitchen fires.
Participants will be taught how to cook and about the importance of good nutrition, as well as receiving fire safety advice from firefighters.
Every Tuesday evening up to 10 local people will be invited to Rotherham fire station on Fitzwilliam Road for cookery classes run by a chef from Rotherham Catering College.
The course, which begins on Tuesday and runs for six weeks, will equip participants with the skills to cook healthy nutritional meals for a family while on a budget.
The initiative is funded by Rotherham Council and all the ingredients will be donated by Asda.
Participants will also be given advice on employment in the food industry and general home fire safety advice.
