East Peak Outdoors Festival
This is a new festival of walking, cycling and horse riding, celebrating the outstanding natural environment surrounding the East Peak area of Penistone, Denby Dale, Kirkburton and North Sheffield.
The event, which runs from Wednesday (June 19) to Sunday, starts with a launch event on Wednesday night at Penistone Market Hall from 4pm to 7pm.
It will feature live music, food, family activities and information about festival events. A music train will also be running on the same night on the Penistone Line with live jazz from The Train Gang.
Many of the events link to the culture and history of the area, including a local history walk around Hoylandswaine, visiting the old nail-making forge and concluding with a talk about the John Roddam Spencer Stanhope mural currently being restored in the local church.
There are a range of activities on every day of the festival,
These include a three-mile walk at Underbank followed by marshmallow toasting on a campfire on Thursday, a Silkstone history and herbs walk on Friday, a Penistone poetry walk on Saturday and a family bike picnic and treasure hunt in Penistone on Sunday.
Penistone Artisan Fayre will hold an event in Penistone Market Hall from 11am to 4pm on Sunday as part of the festival’s closing celebrations. That day will also see a free Family Day running from 11.30am to 3.30pm at the Our Cow Molly Farm in Dungworth. This includes free craft activities, Dr Bike on site to do bike safety checks, plus free tours of the ice cream factory on the hour, each hour.
