Youngsters show off green fashion creations on catwalk at eco-carnival
RECYCLING is bang in fashion at St Michael's Church of England School in Rossington.
Youngsters at the school created their own clothes from recycled materials as part of a programme of events for an environment week, culminating in an eco-carnival.
The carnival included a fashion show to exhibit the designs, as well as a music and dance session using instruments created with recycled items.
Pupils from Rossington All Saints School came in to help with the event.
Now the school is looking to continue with its environmental work, with plans for a school garden which will include raised flowerbeds made with old car tyres.
Year five teacher Helen Appleton said: "It is the first time we have run an event like this, which has helped to develop awareness of recycling and the environment.
"We think it was really successful.
"The children produced some fantastic artwork and used the IT equipment to create leaflets.
"The children really enjoyed what they have been doing, and hopefully it will be a springboard for more work in the future."
Activities earlier in the week had included a visit from cycling proficiency officers and discussions about the different types of transport which are available.
