Youngsters honoured for outstanding contribution
THESE youngsters are the pride of north Doncaster.
That's the verdict of Doncaster North MP Ed Miliband after he handed out awards to some of the town's outstanding teenagers and young adults in his annual Doncaster North Young Persons' Awards.
Dale Crosby, aged 16, Lisa Harrison, 15, Demi Thomas, 15, and Peter Collins, 16, won a prize for setting up a mentoring scheme to help other children at Don Valley School.
And 20-year-old Jason Brooks received an honour for looking after his disabled mother Cindy, who describes him as "her rock".
Mr Miliband handed out the awards, which he set up last year, with Doncaster's civic mayor Tony Sockett at Bentley Pavilion.
The awards are given to young people in his constituency who exhibit extraordinary personal qualities, whether in creative leadership on a voluntary project or by assisting others in the community.
Mr Miliband said: "We've had some great entries for this year's awards. Sometimes people think of the negative aspects of young people, but I think it is important to acknowledge the valuable contribution by young people."
All winners received an engraved silver salver.
