Van driver's incredible escape from tanker crash

THE driver of this van had a lucky escape yesterday when his vehicle became trapped underneath a tanker on the A614 near Doncaster.

The road, between Blaxton and Hatfield Woodhouse, was closed for nearly five hours while the damaged vehicles were recovered.

The 59-year-old man driving a Vuaxhall Astra van got away with nothing more serious than a fractured collar bone when his vehicle collided with the side of a tanker on Thorne Road, near Blaxton roundabout, and came to rest under the HGV.

Doncaster fire crews had to winch the van clear before they could free the driver and get him to hospital.

The crash happened just after 7am and it was nearly midday before the A614 could be reopened.

The 36-year-old male driver of the HGV, who is from Scunthorpe, was not injured.

* A woman had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering head injuries in a collision on the A1 near Barnsdale Bar, Doncaster, on Saturday.
