Trainee decorator has designs on competition victory
THREE painting and decorating students from Doncaster College put their skills to the test in a regional competition - and one is off to a national final.
Trainee Nathan Broxholme won the senior competition at the regional Skillbuild heat at Huddersfield College in June.
He was joined in the heat by fellow students Jonathon Morgan and Aaron Ashton who competed in the 'new entrant' section with Jonathon finishing third.
Nathan, who now goes into the national finals in October this year, said: "I couldn't believe it when I won the regional heat and now I can't wait for the national final - I just better get some practice in."
Lecturer Neil Preskey said: "All three entrants coped admirably with the pressure of this competition, especially the new entrants who started their course last September.
"Nathan, who won the senior competition, will now represent Doncaster College and his employer, A Bagnall Ltd, in the national finals later this year when we hope he will emulate his success in the regional heats."
The college is celebrating Nathan's success in the run-up to Vocational Qualification Day on Wednesday July 23 - a new day set up by the Association of Colleges to reward learners who have studied on more vocational-based programmes.
